Do I have to have a Google account to use an Android Google phone?

I'm thinking about getting the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. And knowing how the phone is a Google Android phone, do I have to create a Gmail account to use the phone?|||I have the phone and its the slide and yes if you want to use everything and get apps. But if you don't then you don't have to. I suggest you do though.|||When I got my G1 last year, the first thing I saw when it was turned on was a sign-in screen requesting my Google acct information, so looks like you're stuck getting a free Gmail account in order to use your MyTouch.|||You need to create an account.
