What have you tried to do and what were the results? For me it's a simple process - I find it hard to believe that it's much harder for the G1 (esp. since you have open access to different Apps while I'm stuck w/whatever Verizon deigns to put on its phones). If you have an SD card, then it should show up on your PC's "my computer" window when the phone is connected via USB. You should be able to simply drop the video files into the card by drag/dropping them from the HD into the correct folder on your card in "my computer".





Your best bet is to convert the files into h.264 - you can do that w/programs like "Quick Media Converter" or "eRightsoft Super".

I don't get the point of using Google Voice to make calls since you still need your phone to make a call and when you get a limited number of minutes or pay per minute you really don't save. Then make a decision.|||My main gripe with the G1 is the email and SMS notifications. The G1 has the ability to play a notification tone whenever you receive a new email or SMS which is fantastic! However, I receive email at all hours and would prefer if the notifications were time based (i.e. - Notification tone could be set to only play between 7am and 10pm). Turning the phone off is not an option, as I am on-call 24/7. As of now if I want an audible notification I must set my notification ringtone for Email and SMS when I get up in the AM, and reset it to silent before I go to bed. What a pain in the ***! I no longer use audible notification for email/SMS.


It's a fairly large/heavy phone which doesn't bother me, but may bother some. Some of the apps eat battery (i.e. - Locale is a fantastic app, but my battery life is halved when running). Go ahead and order a screen protector!





Other than these relatively minor gripes, I have enjoyed this phone.

It will most likely be in jpeg format, compatible with your phone's software. Just put it from there onto your phone the way you currently put pictures from your PC to your phone. The best way is to use a Micro SD card and an adapter/SD card reader. The Rival does permit you to use items on your SD card as 'Set As' items for ID/tones on your phone.

i dont have any friends on t-mobile as the network doesnt cover my area.|||i just called tmobile's customer service, he said you can buy the phone with the data plan then cancel the data plan wothout any fees (probably because i live in detroit and theres no 3G here) and there you go...you have a G1 without paying the extra money. BUT he said theres no point in getting the G1 without the data plan so its your call.|||Seems that there'd be little reason to invest in a G1 if you won't have a data plan to go with it.|||You would be wasting your money. The G1 isn't a device you can use with a prepaid service. It's designed for use with T-Mobile's network. Just like the iphone and AT%26amp;T.

Does the new google phone require fingertip sensory (skin) to use the touch screen?

I have nails and found on the iphone the only way I can use it is to cut my nails short. I was wondering if the touch screen for the G1 was the same?|||The touchscreen sensitivity technology is basically the same in the G1 and the iPhone. If you want to keep your nails long and use a touch screen device I would look for one that usues a stylus by design, the human fingernail is a good substitute for the stylus. My old Palm Treo worked that way

Why when i go on the broswer on my g1 google phone i cant watch videos?

These kind of phones don't have flash support.





The iphone has the Youtube app so you can watch youtube vids there, but you can't get on flash sites on the web.

Does the g1 google phone get warm when its being used and not charging?

being used as in on the phone after a few mins and youtubing for a few mins ..|||sometimes the batter gets a little warm when you use it, like if your on the phone talking or using the web.





i would be alarmed when it gets exceptionally hot|||The phone shouldn't get hot at all while you are using it. it may get warm if you are using it extensively otherwise it should remain cool.





if it ever gets to hot to touch, then there may be something wrong, but that holds true with any cell phone, not just the G1

Trying to decide if it is worth it to get. My T-mobile contract ends in april 09. I am looking to buy a new phone and am torn between the Iphone and the Google Android. At the moment I am leaning more towards the Google Android. Anyone out there own either of these phones and if so what do you think of them?|||I know a lot of people who love the Apple iPhone, especially the iPhone 3G. I think the Android is best if you use a lot of Google apps - like Maps, Gmail, Reader, etc. The iphone is a much more mature device, in that its screen and controls are better, but having said that the G1 has 3 different controls - touch, scroll wheel and a full qwerty keyboard - which IMHO is a big plus over the iphone - people hate typing on the iphone!

But the PC or the cell you are connected to through the WiFi needs to have an internet connection and that PC or cell will be charged.. Not the WiFi you are using.. For ex: If you hava laptop connected to the internet and you are connected to the laptop through the WiFi then you wont be charged for the WiFi but the internet connection to the laptop is charged..!!

When I did a search on Google any phone number would be a link to Skype software and it would dial the number. I do not have it now. I rarely used it but I may use it more now, except it's gone. Anyone have a G1 google phone and know the answer to this question?

So i have the G1 Google phone and it has been giving me a notification that tells me my sim card is full and to delete some messages. I don't have that many messages or pictures saved and i have plenty of room on my SD card. This sim card has been in many many phones and i have had it forever. I am not sure if there is other random stuff on my sim card that i cant get to.

Thanks|||Even though both T-Mobile and Boost use SIM cards, they are actually different types of networks/sim cards. T-Mobile runs on a GSM network and Boost runs on an iDen network. The two are not compatible with each other so you cannot use a g1 on boost. Boost is compatible with Nextel phones if you want to have more choices.





The $50 doesn't include the sim card. Depending on the store, the sim card may cost you $20-$25.

google map mobile on my cell phone is only able to load map when I am connected to wifi. When it is not connected, it does not load any maps? Should it be able to load map when i don't have any internet connections and able to show my position by using my built-in GPS on my cell phone?|||google map will only work with an active connection to the internet if you dont have a data plan and rely on wifi then it will not update till your in wifi again.


your gps may be built in .. but it uses the internet connection to update the information.

If you are trying to bypass the service plan though, unless you jailbreak it and rid yourself of the Apple warranty, you can go through another service provider to try it. ATT requires that you use an internet service plan (30 on top of any phone rate plan). You can turn off the WiFi and turn it on airplane mode, but you still have to pay the monthly charge. This is a good tactic to overcome the terrible battery life iPhones are known to have, if you only want to use it as an iPod at the time, like for commuting or whatever.





That being said, I hope this doesn't deter you from the iPhone completely. I thought I would only use it for email and browsing news headlines, but many applications access the internet or the GPS service in some way that you really utilize the internet and therefore, make the plan much more worthwhile. I heard negative things about the google phone anyways, try looking into the Blackberry bold. You can get Blackberrys without the internet plans and just use the WiFi on select models to browse the internet ;)

give me the pros and cons.|||Okay first off the services. AT%26amp;T was ranked 4th in service by consumer reports and t-mobile was ranked 2nd. 2nd the phones the Mytouch is all about open source. Being able to fully customize it however you want with 0 (ZERO) limitations. The Iphone is closed source. With apple and the app market its either apples way or no way and with the Iphone its one thing at a time. You cannot multitask with the Mytouch it鈥檚 all about multitasking. 3rd I personally thing apple and AT%26amp;T suck I have T-mobile and currently have the T-mobile G1 and I love it. T-mobile is the way to go its better quality and better customer care better everything. The only thing the Iphone has that the Mytouch or G1 doesn鈥檛 is pinch to zoom. Which I am willing to give up to have everything else being better. Oh and also the Mytouch offers FREE I repeat 100% FREE GPS turn-by-turn voice directions compliments of Google. Go with t-mobile.|||Okay I can only help a little but i have an iphone and it's amazing! i love it! i've had it over a year now and its seriously the best phone on the market. i suggest getting a case though, and actually use it.

From there you can put in your address and zip code and they will find a store closest to you.

Thanks :D|||It's simple just connect the G1 to your PC or Mac and you'll see a notification on the "Notification Bar" on your phone with a USB symbol open it and choose the mount option then you sholud see it on you PC or MAC now you just have to create a music folder on your card and put the music inside and the next time you open the music app it should look for music on you SD.

You should put the card in your phone when you first get it and then put it in the computer. You should then see some folders. Then you drag the songs over to your music folder. Then you insert the card back in your phone and go to the music player. Also make sure your sd card isnt' locked. Let me know...

I'm thinking of getting a Google Phone instead of an iPhone, but which do you think is better?

I own the G1 and LOVE it. The touch screen is amazing. I highly recommend it. The apps are currently all free because theyre still testers, but soon they will be amazing, but at a price. It came with a USB cord, so I put it in the computer to try to put some songs, but when I click on the :E Drive (Removable Disk) it says "please insert a disk" or something.

The reason I have to do a hard reset on my phone is because I forgot the password to open my phone. I also forgot my gmail e-mail to reset it. I also forgot the backup email used to find my gmail account.





What do I do?|||Yea it does delete everything but if you can get your same email back on, contacts, calender entries and some other things that are google related will be preserved.|||What an unfortunate situation. It's never fun forgetting your password, but I think hard reseting is the only way you can do it. I would try getting on my gmail account and see if there's something that will help you remember your gmail password. I think that's the only way you can restart your phone without having to delete all your information.|||not only does it delete everything on your phone ,it deletes your entire life ! be carefull

also, how do i contact on the phone google customer service?|||yes, if you get an android phone you will have to have a gmail account. you can make one right there from the phone or use an existing one. if you do not have a gmail account linked to your phone you cannot download apps from the market and also (one of my favorite things about the gmail account) save your contacts to your gmail and if for some reason your phone looses your contacts and/or apps or most any info. you can pull it straight off your gmail.



as for customer service there should be a premade contact on your phone for that labeled (ironically) "customer service"

But if you're still using the default messaging, I would switch to the SMS Pop-up App.. it's awesome.

I restarted my Google G1 phone to factory settings so i can start over fresh. What do i do now?|||are you able to see the data connection icon at the top? If you don't you need to call your provider tmobile? to see if they can fix it. if you call ask directly for a android/blackberry specialist because the regular I.T. guys seem pretty clueless about the data connection for android. Its what i had to do when i first got my mytouch.

How do you compare the Google Phone with the iPhone? Which one is better?

My mobile contract is gonna end in January and I'm not sure if to stay with T-Mobile for the Google Phone or make the swith to AT%26amp;T for the Apple iPhone. They boh seem like the top phones in the industry right now. If you think one is better than the other, please give concrete details on HOW it is better, Thanks. I still think the iPhone looks sexier though. lol|||They are both good in their own respect and caters to different crowds. The iphone are for those that are, of course, loyal to apple as well as those that want it as a "status symbol". It does have alot of bells and whistles that make it a great phone. The G1, on the other hand, is basically a "geek" phone. Those that want a phone to do everything from making a basic phone call to controlling your electronic devices to finding out where you parked your car, then the google phone is for you. I personally have the google phone and have enjoyed it since I have received it. How do I make a Google Voice call from my cell phone and keep my cell phone number private?

I have a Google Voice phone number and account. I only give out the Google Voice phone number. But if I return a call with my cell phone while I'm not at my computer, how do I keep the actual cell phone number private and only display the Google Voice phone number on the other person's phone?|||You need to dial using Google Voice app. Only then will your Google Voice number shows instead of your cell number.

Is there a way to use a Google phone number on an android phone that does not have cell service. I can connect to the internet through WIFi. I tried using Google voice but it wants me to turn the cell portion on (I have it off to save power). It did try turning it on but it says the phone has no service (which I already know)|||You can use Groove IP to make Google Voice calls over WiFi.

The point is how much will it cost to get the google since i am not eligible for a new phone? |||I was quoted a price of $299.00 and I've been a T-Mobile customer for over 3 years! REASON: I've subscribed on the lowest rate plan available- $29.99 / mo. The CSR was not willing to budge on the price; instead telling me how much fun the CSR's in the call center are having using a demo unit. They have to share it - 1/2 hour apiece!





I plan to file a written protest w/Customer Relations - for false advertising. No where is it written or advertised that a minimum rate plan is required.|||when you get a 2 year contract with tmobile..its 180...BUT without the contract, the tmobile website said the suggested retail price: $400|||$180

Google is expected to release it's Indian version only by next year. (May be at the middle) It uses Android Mobile OS, which is a linux platform. It has many facilities as in Apple iPhone. Is the new Google Nexus One phone just another HTC iPhone wannabe?

Ive had lots of different phones in the past including Blackberries %26amp; Nokias, but at the mo ive got an IPhone and it really is the best phone by miles ive ever owned.So if this new Google phone is supposed to be an iPhone killer then what does it have that's so special.|||Well by looking at the specs. it is an iphone killer by hardware as it comes with 1GHz processor and the screen size is also bigger, I dont know how well the software on the phone is but it seems good, this google phone will have to step up if it want to over run the iPhone and a lot of convincing I think too!|||Google's mobile applications (including Maps/Search/Mail etc for the iPhone) are the best apps available at the moment, regardless of device. On paper the new Nexus has a much faster processor than the iPhone and a slightly bigger screen - it also has a 5 megapixel camera (with flash) and some clever technology for filtering out background noise whilst on the phone.





I dispute that the iPhone is 'close to perfect' however I would definitely argue that the iPhone's operating system, menus etc are by far the best on the market at the moment. The Palm Pre has nicer menus than this new Nexus phone - and that has hardly dented Apple's lead.





This Nexus phone is the first incarnation on Google's journey to becoming a leader in Smartphones. 'iPhone killer' is a bit strong - the iPhone was a truly trailblazing, iconic product. But for sure Google does have the financial firepower to make a proper impact on this market - and potentially overtake Apple in the future. But it won't be this particular phone that does it - though it is an excellent piece of kit.|||Is it an iPhone killer? No. Will it compete with iPhone? Yes.





What makes the iPhone so hard to beat is it's ease of use. Everything is pretty intuitive. You really don't need to search around for what you want to do. iTunes also makes transferring music from the computer to the iPhone really easy. Just sync or click and drag. With the Nexus, you have to open up the connection, then you need to click and drag.





What makes the Nexus One better than the iPhone is the operating system. It's a lot more powerful than the iPhone. The screen is better; it's sharper and has better resolution. The voice recognition is way, way better than the iPhone. I tell the iPhone to play a song, and it can't get it right. Even after 3 tries, it still can't get it right. With the Nexus, it's no problem. Nexus also has a better GPS. It's like a real GPS. It gives you direction by direction. iPhone can't do that. Nexus also has speech to text.





I like the Nexus more.
